Living close to the Pacific Ocean in Carlsbad California for over 15 years, beach-combing becomes a daily adventure. At times, the flotsam and jetsam brought in by record high winter storm surges was bountiful.

Driftwood, shells and most especially plastic, including pieces broken off from the eastern pacific garbage gyre were washed from rivers and streams out to sea and then thrown back to shore. Rocks, huge logs, and even rattlesnakes were piled along the coastline. Upon closer inspection an obsession took hold, and with increasing passion, a frenzy to collect began.

Enthralled with the variety, hauling home bags of shells, pieces of wood, rope and plastic of all kinds became commonplace… an addiction. Eventually after combining pieces and surrendering to the experience … the walls in all the rooms of my home were lined with assembled collages. The largest collages are three freestanding rotating Prayer Wheels.
